Show Google Reviews on your TV: how to put customer reviews on your screen

Show your Google Reviews on your TV or screen automatically. Learn how it works, where to mount the screen and which Dutch ACM rules apply to reviews.

Screen showing a daily special on the wall of a restaurant

Almost everyone checks reviews before choosing a business. Yet you mostly see those reviews online, while they'd do a great job in your store, salon or waiting room too. A screen that shows your best Google Reviews gives new customers confidence and makes your regulars proud to be your customers. In this article you'll learn how to show Google Reviews on your TV, where a screen like that pays off most and what to keep in mind.

Why show Google Reviews on a screen?

Reviews are social proof: when others are satisfied, you feel more confident making a choice yourself. On a screen in your business, that works in three ways.

  • You build trust at the moment a customer hesitates, for example at the checkout, the front desk or in the showroom.
  • You show that you take your customers seriously. A business that proudly displays its reviews radiates confidence.
  • You encourage new reviews. People who see that other customers leave a review are more likely to do so themselves.

On top of that, reviews are free content. You don't have to create anything: your customers write them for you.

How to show Google Reviews on your TV

There are roughly three ways to get reviews onto a screen.

1. Screenshots in a slideshow

The simplest way: you take screenshots of your best reviews and put them in a slideshow on a USB stick. That works, but it's manual work. New reviews only appear once you add them yourself, and it's easy to forget to update a USB stick.

2. A review widget in a browser

Some business owners run a web page with a Google Reviews widget on a PC or TV browser. That's automatic, but often not designed for a large screen. The text is small, the page doesn't scroll on its own, and after a browser update an error message suddenly appears on screen.

3. A direct integration through digital signage software

The easiest way is a direct integration. With Stremo's Google Reviews integration you connect your Google Business Profile just once. After that, Stremo fetches your reviews automatically. You set a filter for the minimum number of stars, and the reviews take on your own colors and font. New reviews that match your filter appear on the screen automatically.

Because the reviews are a regular content block, you can run them in your playlist alongside your menu, promotions and news. You decide how often they appear and on which screen. The integration is included in every Stremo subscription, just like the other review integrations.

Where should you put a review screen?

Reviews work best in places where people wait for a moment or make a choice.

  • In the waiting room of a medical practice, garage or hair salon, where visitors have time to read.
  • At the checkout or front desk, where customers pay or make an appointment.
  • In the shop window or on a sidewalk sign screen, to win over passersby.
  • In the showroom, where customers are considering a bigger purchase.
  • In the lobby of a hotel or restaurant, for guests who haven't decided yet.

Tips for a great review screen

  • Keep it short and readable. Long reviews don't fit well on a screen; go for reviews with a short, powerful sentence.
  • Show each review long enough. Allow about one second per three words, with a minimum of around eight seconds.
  • Combine reviews with a call to action. Add a slide with a QR code that links straight to your review page.
  • Mix it up. Don't show reviews all the time; let them come back between other content.
  • Schedule smartly. Run reviews mainly at busy times, when the most people are in front of the screen.

Keep the Dutch ACM rules in mind

Reviews are only valuable if they're honest. That's why the ACM (the Dutch Authority for Consumers and Markets) has rules for businesses that use reviews. Only use genuine reviews from people who were actually customers. Don't show only the responses that suit you, and be clear about which reviews you display and how an average score is calculated. Paid or incentivized reviews must be clearly identified as such.

Do you use a star filter to keep the screen calm and positive? Then also show your average score and the total number of reviews, for example on a separate slide. That way you give an honest picture and avoid misleading your customers.

Also keep Google's own rules in mind. You may ask customers for a review, but you may not approach only satisfied customers or offer a reward for a positive rating. Simply ask everyone for their honest opinion.

Collecting more reviews

A review screen works best when new reviews come in regularly. A few ways to encourage that:

  • Ask for a review in person after an appointment or purchase.
  • Put a QR code that goes straight to your review page on your screen, the receipt or the front desk.
  • Send a short email or WhatsApp message with the link to your review page.
  • Respond to every review, positive or negative. It shows that you're listening.
